Step 1: Find your save
Satisfactory stores your saves as files ending in .sav. On Windows, you’ll find them here:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\
Paste the path into the address bar of File Explorer and press Enter. Inside this folder is a subfolder with a long number – that’s where your saves are. Check the modification date: the newest file is usually the save you want to bring along. You can recognise autosaves by the endings _autosave_0, _autosave_1 and so on.
Tip: before moving, save manually in-game once under a clear name, for example “Server move”. Then you know exactly which file to upload.
Step 2: Upload your save
The easiest way is right in the Game Panel: open “Files”, go to the folder for saves and upload your .sav file – no extra software needed, straight from your browser. For large files, or if you prefer your own tools, SFTP access is available as well.
Alternatively, you can upload saves in-game through the Server Manager. Once connected, you’ll find save management there.
Step 3: Connect and claim the server
- Start Satisfactory and open the Server Manager from the main menu.
- Add a server and enter the address you’ll find in the Game Panel.
- When you connect for the first time, you claim the server: you choose a server name and an admin password. Keep it safe – you’ll use it to manage the server in-game.
- Optionally, set a password for players. Then only people you give it to can join.
Step 4: Load your save
In the Server Manager, select your uploaded session in save management and load it. After that, everyone connects to the server through the Server Manager – your friends just add the same address. Your factory now runs on the server, and everyone can join whenever they have time.
Important settings
Auto-pause: should the factory keep running?
In the server settings in the Server Manager, you decide whether the server pauses as soon as nobody is connected. With auto-pause on, your factory loses no progress, but nothing happens while everyone is offline. Turn it off and your factory keeps running around the clock – resources are mined and processed even when nobody is playing.
Backups
Satisfactory creates autosaves on its own. On top of that, you can back up the whole server with one click in the Game Panel under “Backups” – ideally before every big rebuild. Under “Automations” you can set up a nightly backup that is also stored externally.
Common problems and fixes
The save won’t load
The game and the server need to be on the same version. For example, a save from the Experimental branch can’t be loaded on a server running the regular version. If you play Experimental, let us know.
I’ve installed mods
Mods have to be installed in the same version on the server and for every player. Tell us in your request which mods you use – we’ll set up the server to match.
I forgot the admin password
